Australia is grieving the loss of 28 lives taken too soon over the skies of Eastern Ukraine. It reminds us that in each act of war there is also collateral damage and always unspeakable suffering and loss. Behind each act of aggression are soldiers led by commanders who are led by leaders and governments all playing the age old battle for territorial and ideological gain.

When thinking about those innocent people shot out of the sky over Eastern Ukraine, we already understand that the greatest casualty in this tragedy, as well as the wider conflict in Ukraine, is always “the truth,” as Aeschylus the Greek tragic dramatist (525 BC – 456 BC) declared so long ago.

As we talk about the truth, right now, our governments are asking us to believe in their leadership and their version of reality through their words and the commentary in their news agencies. The trouble is we cannot trust them because the same principle applies when identifying the validity of ones faith. “By their fruits you shall know them (Matthew 7:16)* and; “then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free,” (John 8:32). This is far from embedding all citizens within a society marked by intelligence driven governments who are asking for more intelligence powers.

Now more than ever, each one of us understands that the problem of a lack of commitment to the truth is a very human and political one. George Bernard Shaw stated that,

“the reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”

The disastrous situation which we all find ourselves in as a global community is an unreasonable model with the “unreasonable man” at work. This is not progress. It is a model that has been adopted by leftward drifting Western governments intolerant of religion, traditions and customs divesting more power to the U.N and E.U.

The perversion of the truth is now a real problem as the unreasonable man has been at work in the liberal idea of progress. This perversion was put on steroids by the Bush and Obama administrations where a radical transformation in the information marketplace took place. America went from from a ratio of one spin doctor to six journalists in 2001 to six spin doctors to the one journalist within the space of a few years.

The “unreasonable man” model is why America, Britain and France are still living within a twentieth century colonialist/imperialist mindset with spirituality and missionaries pushed right out of the picture. While governments came in behind missionaries in the past, NGO’s (non-governmental organizations) have taken their place. These NGO’s are trained in a philosophical environment of what Bloomberg has referred to as universities that are “bastions of intolerance.”

To protect the NGO’s, peacekeepers are employed along with anti-terrorism services. These anti-terrorism services are currently the biggest boon in services only second to the Industrial Arms Complex which has the largest lobbying body in Washington. While countries should be trading resources for schools and hospitals in developing countries they are trading their resources for weapons and intelligence capabilities. France has launched over 5 satellites recently and it is not rocket science to work out what they are being used for.

In trading “the truth” of what is going on internationally for “intelligence” and so called “progressive” liberalism, the war over resources has marched alongside an aggressive ideology that persecutes religion tradition and customs. It has marched on such an aggressive path alongside an expanding intelligence community that it has been a disaster for both America and international security.

America and the world is now in a situation where;

“The worst sin towards our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them: that’s the essence of inhumanity.” (Bernard Shaw)

This is the current stalemate with Russia and Muslim extremism and the lefts disdain of religion, tradition and custom. Instead of seeing beauty in diversity we are herded as a community to see a threat around every corner infused in our minds by a tumorous intelligence apparatus, a bigoted media and university sector that persecutes Christian ideals.

Obama has created an environment where terrorist threats have grown and intelligence services are now becoming much larger in operations than elected government.

Indeed, what is coming next should be a concern to all citizens that value freedom and free speech which is an end to “net neutrality.” This goes beyond the viewing and storing of our information to the censorship of debate and democratic speech. It is an end to the greatest mechanism of accountability in that of a free internet.

Sadly, governments have worked out that people are really quite apathetic to any cause at all and only commit themselves temporarily as we saw with Kony 2012 (Invisible Children). News reporting has reflected the need to sensationalize on a day to day basis to keep peoples attention. Most of us seem content with the reality that while we all desire the truth from those closest to us, decisions removed from our center do not matter. We have a situation where politicians understand as Shaw quipped that, “Two percent of the people think; three percent of the people think they think; and ninety-five percent of the people would rather die than think.” To “think” seriously as to the importance of “truth” as a principle to be upheld and expected by us, from our homes to our leaders, is now a dream, an unrealistic proposition.

Nevertheless, what we do witness, despite the broad apathy of most surrendering to the inevitable expectation of ongoing incompetence and lack of trust in the nature of our leaders, is that we all have a God given voice within “to know the truth.” This cannot be blotted out by the darkness of apathy, addictions or ignorance.

If this world and our nations are ever to have any peace there must be spiritual renewal and a desire “for the truth” from the family to our governments. It will not come in a 1984 like society. Indigenous Australians recognize this need for spiritual renewal as well as any reasonable man. The founding fathers recognized this. Those who abolished slavery understood this in the Clapham Sect. A black American president or a female president cannot bring positive change, only a nation under God, for it is a spiritual matter to be a “light on the hill” not a military or organizational or ideological matter.

As families grieve with the loss of their loved ones, it is against a backdrop of a West which is more corrupted by power than ever. We spend billions of dollars in the West on intelligence agencies that prevent Britons from going to Kenya against a backdrop of the West’s war with China over resources from East to West but cannot prevent a plane flying over a war zone. France’s president has made his intentions clear for colonial continuity from his recent visits to Western Africa. This revived French colonialist intent extends back to the day Gaddafi refused to sign an oil deal with the previous president Sarkosy in France.

It is little comfort to the relatives of downed flight MA17 that our intelligence agencies and governments could not prevent a plane from flying over a war zone, knowing that jets and transport planes had been downed on a preceding timeline. Nor is their any morality in a no-fly-zone over Libya to depose of Gaddafi while allowing civilians and journalists to be targeted without a word, or a no-fly zone over eastern Ukraine. And what about the 20,000 surface to air missiles stolen from unsecured weapons piles in Libya.

Christians have an obligation to question their government and interests and this explains why. Sensing this, left wing administrations are worried over our voices. We will not remain silent when darkness reigns. My prayers and thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones but we can count on much more suffering and collateral damage when the truth is persecuted out of existence from the I.R.S to the C.I.A to Congress. Where there is light there is the absence of shadows and darkness. Christians are the salt and light of the earth. As Christians we need to take our call seriously to love each other and seek the truth; to promote diversity. Bernard Shaw stated,

“Must then a Christ perish in torment in every age to save those that have no imagination?”

The answer from history is almost always “Yes.” We may not perish but we must be prepared to be ostracized and ridiculed for speaking the truth as Christ was. This, knowing that people suffer all the more when God’s Kingdom of truth and love in Christ is absent from this wonderful planet.

As Christians in the 21st century, let us be “reasonable” men and women. We must personally understand and feel the torment of peoples ignorance while understanding that, “the only Christianity worth anything in the last days is one that, identifies with people in their suffering,” as Dietrich Bonhoeffer stated. It is having the confidence that;

“One man that has a mind and knows it can always beat ten men who haven’t and don’t.” (Bernard Shaw)

“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” (John 4:4)

To all the families of those who lost loved ones on on flight M17, you deserve the truth on more than just this tragedy. These things happen because leaders talk of a “different sets of lawyers” (Obama). They happen when intelligence agencies are geared up to fight terrorism as a secondary measure to advancing countries selfish interests as we have seen in the Snowden leaks. If Britain can prevent its citizens from flying to Kenya it can surely prevent an aircraft from taking a path over a war zone where 3 parties have surface to air missiles; and jets had already been downed.

If I lost my loved ones, I would be blaming the international community and the mess which is Obama’s leadership. I wrote to our Foreign Minister in Australia and advised that there should be a no-fly-zone over Eastern Ukraine. I did this on a number of occasions after countless journalists and civilians were targeted. My pleas fell on deaf ears. If this was put in place, there would not have been this tragedy and a moral consistency that the West appears incapable of.
